What is mueller muscle?

Mueller's muscle is a thin layer of smooth muscle found in the upper eyelid. It is responsible for raising the upper eyelid and plays an important role in maintaining the symmetry and appearance of the eyes. Dysfunction of Mueller's muscle can lead to eyelid drooping, also known as ptosis. The muscle is named after Fritz Mueller, a German ophthalmologist who first described it in 1873. Surgery can be performed to tighten or reattach Mueller's muscle and correct ptosis.
